Hey — LA's first 20 speed cameras were set to switch on Monday, but for the first 60 days they only send warnings. That's the most LA-startup move possible: a soft launch with a grace period. The Hunter's Moon is also pushing king tides up the coast through Thursday, and the Brewers (yes, the team that swept the Dodgers) are in a World Series that could end on Halloween. So drive the speed limit, stay off the sand at high tide, and spend your evenings indoors with people who build things.
Seven picks this week, mostly Westside. On Tuesday there's a Claude Code night at a Santa Monica pub and an impact-investing dinner. Wednesday is the busy one: a Startup World Cup regional pitch night, a Claude night for founders and fractional execs in Playa Vista, and climate drinks on the 68th floor of the US Bank Tower. On Thursday there's a ComfyUI build night in Culver City with a $10K prize, and Elastic's agent talk back in Santa Monica. Most of these need approval and a few are close to full, so request your spots this morning.
Here's What's Up.
